Norwegian director Joachim Trier's first film in English language, Louder Than Bombs, is a family drama with excellent Gabriel Byrne, Isabelle Huppert and Jesse Eisenberg in lead roles. Gene is an aging high-school professor who is trying to cope with the sudden death of his wife Isabelle, an acclaimed war photographer. Three years after Isabelle's death, Gene's relations with his younger son Conrad are aggravated. The young man's seclusion does not help either. When the older son, Jonah, comes home because of the forthcoming posthumous exhibition of Isabelle's works, the three men are forced to spend some time together. Gene uses the opportunity to patch up the strained relations. However, the exhibition could reveal dark family secrets to the public. In his latest film, Trier (whose Oslo, August 31^st screened at the 9^th ZFF) skillfully and wittily maneuvers between different perspectives in order to penetrate the dynamics of painful family relations.

Joachim Trier was born in Copenhagen, graduated from England's National Film and Television School. He made several acclaimed short films, including Still and Procter, before his features Reprise and Oslo, August 31st. Reprise won awards at many acclaimed festivals, including Karlovy Vary IFF, Toronto IFF, Rotterdam IFF and others. Louder Than Bombs is his third feature.
