Romanian entry for the 88th Academy Awards; Berlinale 2015. – Silver Bear for Best Director; Tribeca Film Festival 2015.
Five years after his Everybody In Our Family won a Golden Pram at the 10th Zagreb Film Festival, Radu Jude is back, revisiting Croatian audience big style. His comedy-drama Bravo! won him a Silver Bear for Best Director at this year's Berlinale and has been submitted as the Romanian entry for the Academy Award. The plot takes place in Romania in 1835. Local gendarme Costandin and his son Ionita are searching for Carfin, a Romany slave accused for having an affair with his master's wife. The hunt turns into a real adventure and the father and son encounter people of different ethnic backgrounds and denominations – all of them showing mutual prejudices passed down from generation to generation. When they finally track Carfin down, Costandin and Ionita's adventure is still far from over.
Radu Jude was born in Bucharest, in 1977. He has directed a series of award-winning short films. His debut feature The Happiest Girl in the World screened at over 50 film festivals worldwide and won awards at Sundance and Berlinale.
