Three films in this year’s and two from last year’s ZFF selection have been nominated for the European Film Academy Awards.
EFA Awards in the best film category features the Icelandic and Danish film Rams, a comedy drama directed by Grimur Hakonarson, about two stubborn brothers who will be united by common misfortune after 14 years of war. We are extremely pleased that at the opening of the 13th ZFF on Saturday, 14 November we will have a chance to meet the protagonists, actors Sigurður Sigurjónsson and Theodór Júliosson.
The competition also includes Mustang by Turkish director Deniz Gamze Ergüven, a drama about a scandal that changes the lives of a young group of girls forever. A distant cousin of the iconic Virgin Suicides shown in LUX Film Days and The Great 5, Youth, is the latest work by the Italian Oscar winner Paolo Sorrentino.
The best film and best comedy categories include the nomination of A Pigeon Sat on a Branch reflecting on Existence by the great Swedish director Roy Anderson, screened at ZFF last year. Dancing with Maria by Ivan Gergolet from the last year’s documentary selection is running for EFA’s best documentary award.
More than 3000 EFA members need to reach a decision in the following month. The winners will be announced at the European Film Academy Awards ceremony on 12 December 2015 in Berlin. Check out the list of all nominees here.
