The Danish Oscar candidate, A War, is the acclaimed new film by Tobias Lindholm, the director of award-winning Hijacking and the screenwriter of several episodes of the popular Danish serial Borgen. A Venice Film Festival competition entry, his second feature is an uncompromising study of an unsolved war crime which draws the audience into the mind of Claus Pedersen, the commander of a military peace force in Afghanistan. Lindholm proved an expert in the anatomy of human psyche in extreme conditions. The commander is played by popular Danish actor Pilou Asbæki, known as Kasper in Borgen, a former journalist and PR expert. A War is scheduled for Europa Cinema, 9.30pm.
This year’s Czech Oscar candidate, an untypical comedy Home Care, is scheduled for 7pm. After the screening, director Slávek Horák will have a Q&A with the audience. Home Care is a film that speaks about mortality with bitter-sweetness and typical Czech merriment, was praised by the audience and critics this summer at Karlovy Vary Film Festival. For his feature debut, director Horák chose a topic he is very familiar with and set the plot to his native town of Zlin, shooting at his parents’ home and garden. The result is an intimate and natural atmosphere of visible authenticity.
