Nine-year-old Rose leads a happy life with her mother, four brothers and a limousine. Until one day, when a charming musician, Johnny Ster, comes into their lives. Her mother madly falls in love with him but Rose is the only one who knows who Johnny really is. He is no star – he is Bakru, an evil spirit who has put a spell on her mother.
Ineke Houtman majored in directing and camera. Her opera film Idomeneo won the prize for Best Dutch Children’s TV Program and the Prix Jeunesse and was nominated for an Emmy. Her feature Scratches in the Table was the Dutch entry for the Oscar. Her last film My Grandpa, the Bankrobber was seen by over 100 000 viewers, for which it won the Golden Film Award.
