Following in the footsteps of great directors like Orsone Welles, Akira Kurosawa and Roman Polanski, Justin Kurzel, the director known for his brutal crime debut Snowtown Murders, took on the task of adapting one of Shakespeare’s bloodiest plays. The critics agree that this is the most violent adaptation thus far, in the best possible sense, with stellar performances by Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard as the fatally ambitious Macbeth couple. Macbeth is scheduled for 6pm, Tuškanac cinema, in The Great 5 section.
Together Again at 10pm, Tuškanac, screens the film White Knights. The meticulous, non-judgmental approach to the story of marital depression and infanticide in his previous film Our Children (shown at ZFF 2013), was this time applied by director Joachim Lafosse on another morally and ethically tricky situation in a story about African child traffickers who act in disguise as a charity organisation.
Jacques, played by Cannes award-winner Vincent Lindon, leads the team of a French adoption agency who pose as a charity organisation in wartime Chad, supposing to provide accommodation to local orphans. Their pretences, that serve to win the local people’s trust, are in fact false. Their aim is to smuggle the children from Africa to the hands of their adoptive parents overseas. The film premiered this year in Toronto and it also won the Silver Shell for best director in San Sebastian.
