The Great 5 section is screening Youth, a charming new film by the Italian Oscar winner Paolo Sorrentino (The Great Beauty), starring a host of Hollywood actors led by Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel. Appearing in one of the roles is Luna Mijović, whom we remember from the Bosnian and Herzegovinian film Grbavica, and who is presenting the film this evening at 6pm at Tuškanac. In the recognisable Sorrentinian extravagant style, Youth portrays old friends in their 80s who enjoy and relax at a Swiss Alpine hotel, passing time in thoughts about the past, present, beauty and absurdity of life.
At 10pm, Tuškanac Cinema is screening the Brazilian Oscar candidate, The Second Mother, in the Together Again section. Anne Muylaert’s fourth film is a story about a perfect babysitter and housekeeper Val who is visited, after years of separation, by the young and ambitious daughter whose self-confidence and vibrancy shakes the strict class regime in the household to the core. The Second Mother is an intense drama about the clash of old and new principles, told through black humour and tangible characters. The film won a jury special mention for acting at Sundance and this year’s Berlinale Audience Award.
