Next to a good and innovative film program, educational film-related contents are of utmost importance to a recognisable film festival concept. Zagreb Film Festival has from the very beginning been stressing the audience’s need for additional activities such as Q&A’s with directors, special programs for filmmakers and targeted audience, and workshops aiming to develop local production.
Industry was introduced in 2012 as a special part of ZFF under the name Industry Youth!, and in 2013 it continued to live with a shorter, albeit more comprehensive name, gathering different contents in a single platform for training and networking.
This year, Industry features a series of activities: a screenwriting workshop My First Script is again gathering six new participants to develop their screenwriting feature film projects under script doctors’ mentorship. Danish editor Jesper Osmund will host a rough cut workshop of mentoring for five chosen Croatian projects in editing and post-production phase. For the youngest audience, mentored by Jure Troje, there will be another Bib for Kids workshop, aiming to present elementary schoolchildren with the basics of filmmaking.
The 10th birthday of Checkers, a program keeping track of the local short film production, will feature a panel on the placement and distribution of short film. In association with the Croatian Audiovisual Centre we will introduce the Polish Wajda Film School, i.e. an intense EKRAN+ program, and four acclaimed filmmakers will host a master class on different subjects from the field of film production.
In association with Palunko, the Croatian Film Clubs’ Association’s screenwriting training platform, this year we are presenting the first screenwriting handbook Napiši scenarij, by Jasmina Kallay, PhD.
